Adjusting to Life

Well, we are just loving being new parents. Colson is such a great little guy. We feel so grateful he's so calm and happy. We keep on trying to take pictures that show how small he is, but pictures just don't seem to do his size justice. Colson is quickly putting on weight. His wrinkled Grandpa bum is turning into a cute little baby bottom. We love seeing what each new day brings to us as we watch him grow.

Colson is the same size as the little puppy my mom brought for him. They're both tinny tiny.

Grandma came in from Denver to spend a week with us. Baby Colson hasn't stopped smiling since she got here! We love you and are so glad you came to visit!

Colson in his Gorilla shirt the says "Respect the Kong" that he got from his Aunt Jessica He looks bigger than he really is, I swear!!!

Introducing Colson R Polatis

Well, I'm sure that by now most of you know that our sweet little baby boy is here! Trust me when I say this was a huge surprise and I still have moments when I can't believe he's at home with us.
Our Story:
Saturday we finally decided that we should make the trip up to Idaho Falls to go shopping to pack our bags for the hospital. We also thought that we would go out to eat at Red Robin since our weekends were numbered that we could just go do whatever we wanted. (Little did we know how soon that would be) We finished up got home and packed. That night for whatever reason I wasn't feeling my best and was kind of grouchy. I tried to sleep in bed but that didn't work, so I went and slept out on Shane's humongous recliner.
Sunday
2:33am- I was woken up by the thought that I had just peed in my sleep. "Did I really just pee?" I thought. Then the horror came as the thought of my water breaking entered my mind. "No, it couldn't be could it?" I sat there for a good couple of minutes debating on whether I should wake up Shane. Standing in the silhouette of our bedroom door I announced to Shane that I thought my water had broke. As he asked if I was really sure the flood gates opened and Shane was up and calling the hospital to see what we should do since I wasn't having any kind of contractions.
I took my time since I wasn't in pain. Who knew when I would get a chance to shower and shave......so I did just that, and did my hair and did a little make-up. Yes, I AM VAIN!

3:30am- Finally at the hospital we waited almost 4 hours to see if I would start contractions on my own, that didn't happen so they started me on pittosin. Quite soon after that the pain came, and came and came. I held out for as long as I could. I really didn't want an epidural. As the tears came I decided that I would get an IV pain killer called Stadal. Warning to anyone who will go into labor at some point, DO NOT use Stadal. I hallucinated the entire time. Little clowns standing around my bed, ponies, unicorns you name it. Shane has it all on video. In the end it only relieved pain for like 30 minutes and then I was groggy and out of it And in pain horrible pain. By this point I said BRING ON THAT EPIDURAL!!!!

After the epidural I was great. We played the waiting game and around 6:00pm I promised our two nurses that I would have this baby before they left their shift at 7:00. Well, after three pushes that lasted a total of 10 minutes our Colson was born at 6:40. He weighed 5 lbs. 3oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Not too bad for our little guy being 3 weeks early. Colson was considered a preemie so he had to stay 18 hours in the NCU.

After all is said and done, this was by far the best experience that Shane and I have had. We feel so blessed that our little guy is safe and healthy.
Thanks for all the calls and e-mails of congrats!

This Crazy Daze We Call Life

As I'm sitting here on my nice soft couch catching up on all of our friend's blogs it occurs to me that I have once again become a slacker. I have tried to blog at least twice a week, but once again I find myself in: the Daze I call my life. Looking at the last few weeks here are some of the conclutions I've come to.

1. Once you hit 7 1/2 months, pregnancy looses it's appeal
2. 6th graders have way too much attitude for their own good.
3. After hearing other pregnant friends share their experiences of taking birthing classes, I'm glad we oppted to watch videos at home instead of having to surround ourselves with idiots. (Marianne and Clayton, I'm glad you found humor in your situation)
4. Moving into a nice new clean large apartment feels so good, even if you have to unpack 50 billion boxes! We're finally all unpacked! yea!
5. 6th graders have big hearts, but usually they have to think that no one is watching them for this miraculous event to take place.
6. Leftover aren't as bad as I used to think. It means I don't have to cook dinner.
7. Do not set off fire alarms while you're cooking. Especially if you live in a funeral home. (aka US) The fire department WILL show up if you don't let them know it is a false alarm. That can be a little embarassing. (It happened twice this past weekend. Lucky for us the fire department only came the first time because we immedietly informed them the second time in order to avoid the awkward situation)
8. Nephews either think it's totally awesome you live in a funeral home because you have an elevator in your house, or are totally freaked out because they think and are totally convinced you live with a bunch of dead people!

Well, that's our DAZE for the past little while stay tuned for more of our frenzy fun!

One Year Down, Forever to Go.....

Today is our one year aniversery. It's hard to believe that it's already been a year, but yet it feels like Shane and I have been together for much longer than that. (Which is a very good thing) It's so wonderful to know that no matter what happens we'll be able to have each other and our family forever and ever. We feel absolutly blessed to have been sealed in the Denver Temple on a frosty winter day with family and friends all around us.

The Walking Dead

Well, we've made the move to Blackfoot. It was quite the ordeal to get packed up and moved. Luckily Shane's brothers and their wives came to our rescue. Our plans were to live with the In-Laws for a month, but then get a place and move in before the baby came.... but plans change. About a day before we came down we caught wind of an apartment that was available in town. Our prayers were answered and a few days later, we got the apartment. Now this apartment is no normal apartment. It's in the basement of one of the funeral homes in Blackfoot. I tried to explain to our nephews where we were living and their reactions were pretty funny. The funeral home used to be the Civic Center and before that the tabernacle. The basement apartment has been newly remodeled and is a little more than 2500 square feet. It's right next to a park (Which will be awesome after the baby is born). We feel once again blessed that we were able to find a home so fast.
