The Amazing Balding Baby

Colson had so much hair when h was born. Infact, one of our nicknames we have for him is monkey. Recently he has aquired male pattern baldness due to cradle cap. It's so sad but funny at the same time. We can only hope that it won't last too much longer and the hair on the top of his head will grow back!

Well, Colson is now 7 weeks old. He's weighing in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and 19.5 inches long. He's such a great eater and sleeper. We keep catching him smiling and cooing more and more. We have so much fun watching him get bigger, and can't wait until we get to see more of his personality.

Lullabye and Goodnight...

Our wonderful sister in law Jocylyn gave us a "life saving" baby toy after Colson was born. It's a sound and light maker. It plays music and lights up but at the same time it projects pictures on the ceiling. The past few nights randomly we here the music start playing because he smacked it with his little fist. When I would go in to check on him, he would just be staring at the lights and moving parts. We love it, the only down side is that we end up hearing it in our room too through the baby monitor.

Hanging Out With Dad

Shane has been so good staying home with Colson while I finish up my student teaching. You can definently tell they're going to be great pals for life! Colson loves hanging out with Shane even if they're just sitting together eating rice!

Life With a New Baby

It's hard to believe that Colson is already a month old. He's been so much fun to have in our home. He's such a good baby. Here are a few recent pictures we've taken.

Adjusting to Life

Well, we are just loving being new parents. Colson is such a great little guy. We feel so grateful he's so calm and happy. We keep on trying to take pictures that show how small he is, but pictures just don't seem to do his size justice. Colson is quickly putting on weight. His wrinkled Grandpa bum is turning into a cute little baby bottom. We love seeing what each new day brings to us as we watch him grow.

Colson is the same size as the little puppy my mom brought for him. They're both tinny tiny.

Grandma came in from Denver to spend a week with us. Baby Colson hasn't stopped smiling since she got here! We love you and are so glad you came to visit!

Introducing Colson R Polatis

Well, I'm sure that by now most of you know that our sweet little baby boy is here! Trust me when I say this was a huge surprise and I still have moments when I can't believe he's at home with us.

Our Story:

Saturday we finally decided that we should make the trip up to Idaho Falls to go shopping to pack our bags for the hospital. We also thought that we would go out to eat at Red Robin since our weekends were numbered that we could just go do whatever we wanted. (Little did we know how soon that would be) We finished up got home and packed. That night for whatever reason I wasn't feeling my best and was kind of grouchy. I tried to sleep in bed but that didn't work, so I went and slept out on Shane's humongous recliner.

Sunday

2:33am- I was woken up by the thought that I had just peed in my sleep. "Did I really just pee?" I thought. Then the horror came as the thought of my water breaking entered my mind. "No, it couldn't be could it?" I sat there for a good couple of minutes debating on whether I should wake up Shane. Standing in the silhouette of our bedroom door I announced to Shane that I thought my water had broke. As he asked if I was really sure the flood gates opened and Shane was up and calling the hospital to see what we should do since I wasn't having any kind of contractions.

I took my time since I wasn't in pain. Who knew when I would get a chance to shower and shave......so I did just that, and did my hair and did a little make-up. Yes, I AM VAIN!

3:30am- Finally at the hospital we waited almost 4 hours to see if I would start contractions on my own, that didn't happen so they started me on pittosin. Quite soon after that the pain came, and came and came. I held out for as long as I could. I really didn't want an epidural. As the tears came I decided that I would get an IV pain killer called Stadal. Warning to anyone who will go into labor at some point, DO NOT use Stadal. I hallucinated the entire time. Little clowns standing around my bed, ponies, unicorns you name it. Shane has it all on video. In the end it only relieved pain for like 30 minutes and then I was groggy and out of it And in pain horrible pain. By this point I said BRING ON THAT EPIDURAL!!!!

After the epidural I was great. We played the waiting game and around 6:00pm I promised our two nurses that I would have this baby before they left their shift at 7:00. Well, after three pushes that lasted a total of 10 minutes our Colson was born at 6:40. He weighed 5 lbs. 3oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Not too bad for our little guy being 3 weeks early. Colson was considered a preemie so he had to stay 18 hours in the NCU.

After all is said and done, this was by far the best experience that Shane and I have had. We feel so blessed that our little guy is safe and healthy.
